Sadly, after years of development, we still haven't been able to get our full financing together. Due to this, and a loss of momentum, the film is being shelved for the time being. In the meantime, the producers are focusing on other projects, most notably Mark of Kane. This film is not dead, but it definitely won't be made any time soon. That may change, if the right financial partners and/or co-producers are found. The film remains on the production slate, but other projects will be completed first. We'd like to thank the team, the fans anticipating the film, everyone who has helped so far, and the attached cast for their patience. Hopefully it will pay off sometime down the line. Some further updates about the status of the film can be found here.
We finally have some solid news to share on the film! The worldwide rights were recently acquired by genre outfit Raven Banner Entertainment. The company will co-produce the film, with production beginning in Spring 2013. Also joining the team is prolific Canadian producer Avi Federgreen. Most excitingly of all: genre-icon Michael Biehn is set to play the role of James Parker, joining Adam Kenneth Wilson in the rapidly growing cast. The film will be represented at this year's American Film Market by Raven Banner.
On a much more sombre note, it is with great sadness that we must mention the passing of co-creator Kevin Hutchinson, who was a huge part in developing this film over the last several years. He will be greatly missed, but his work will live on once the film finally makes it to the screen. More announcements in the coming weeks.
The current goal for the film is a production start date in early 2012. Big developments are happening on this end, and we can't wait to share them with you. We did what we had to do, and taking the side-trip into producing The Collapsed was absolutely the right choice. Director/co-writer/co-producer Justin McConnell will once again be travelling to AFM this year in support of the project (from Nov. 4 - 9), with a great team backing him up. Interested parties should contact him.
Now that our other feature film The Collapsed is starting it's festival/theatrical run, and has sold to multiple territories, we are finally focusing on THE ETERNAL again. This project is far from finished - in fact... we're just getting started. We will bring updates as they happen. Until then, stay tuned!
Production on THE ETERNAL is being put on hold currently, in wake of a tough independent finance market. The film is forthcoming, and we continue working hard to gather the necessary resources to bring this story to the screen (and the page). Additionally, Unstable Ground will not be exhibiting at this year's Rue Morgue Festival of Fear, as we have in the two past years.
Despite these developments, the summer will be filled two other feature productions from the team: completion of the upcoming documentary Skull World, and a currently untitled micro-budget horror/thriller. THE ETERNAL is coming - but the wait is now longer. The film, and our new completed features, will once again be represented at AFM this coming Fall.
We are pleased that G4TV's Electric Playground aired a great story on the film, and production company Unstable Ground. The segment can be seen here, and the full episode from January 11th can be viewed here. Another reminder: "Ending The Eternal" starts rotation on Movieola this Friday night. It's airing schedule can be followed (and will be kept up to date) here.
Happy New Year from the crew of THE ETERNAL! We are hard at work gearing up to get this film made, and can't wait to bring this much larger story of Samuel to the screen. It all started somewhere, however, with the short film "Ending The Eternal". For those who have yet to see it, or just want to support, the short has it's Canadian television premiere on Movieola on Friday, January 15th (11:29pm EST)! Make sure to tune in.
The big news: the brand new AFM '09 teaser trailer of THE ETERNAL is now online! Check out the media section, or watch it in YouTubeHD or VimeoHD . The film will be represented at this year's AFM (American Film Market), by director Justin McConnell & executive producer Lorne Gross. All inquires should be made directly through this site, via the contact page.
Let us begin today, Canada Day, by stating our intent to help put Canadian horror back on the map! Development on THE ETERNAL continues, toward the start of shooting this fall. This summer is looking to be busier than ever. We will once again have a booth at the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear - come visit us, enter the contest (a 'one-of-a-kind' painting by Kevin Hutchinson), collect some free swag, and check out the first issue of The Eternal: Final Dawn. We hope to see you there!
The newly re-designed website is now live. Enjoy.
It is with great pleasure that we announce The Eternal: Final Dawn, a full-length graphic novel prequel to THE ETERNAL. Written by Justin McConnell, Kevin Hutchinson, and Adam Kenneth Wilson, and illustrated by Justin Erickson (Rue Morgue Magazine), the synopsis is as follows:
“The Eternal: Final Dawn tells the life (and undead) story of Samuel Gradius, born in 1463 Scotland as Samhairle Greme. Twelve chapters tell his journey, from birth until 2009, and the first moments of the feature film The Eternal. Set against the backdrop of real history and known myth, the horrific, tragic and humorous collide in The Eternal: Final Dawn. Welcome to Samuel’s world – we can’t guarantee your safety.”
The graphic novel represents the first step in offering a unique immersive experience for an independent film, as out of the twelve total issues, the first six will be offered online in monthly installments, entirely free. The first issue is expected to be offered online later this year, and will be previewed at the upcoming Rue Morgue Festival of Fear in Toronto. You can view the teaser issue here.
If you haven't had a chance to check out the online prequel short film, Ending The Eternal, it is now newly colour-corrected and available in High Res Quicktime, on Vimeo, and Myspace.
Happy New Year from the crew of THE ETERNAL! We have been taking some extra time to develop the film, including a newly conceived and highly immersive online component.
Response to the short Ending The Eternal continues to be great, including winning the audience awards for "Best Film" and "Best Cinematography" at the Wildsound Film Festival in Toronto. Additionally, the short was sold to distributor OuatMedia and will begin broadcasting on various television stations throughout the year.
More details to come, as this is only a taste of what lay ahead.
Festival response to the Ending The Eternal has been great. If in the Toronto area this coming week, make sure to check our events page for details on two screenings happening in the next little while.
Development on the feature film continues, with exciting news coming soon.
The short film prequel, Ending The Eternal, has been added as official selections of the Toronto After Dark Film Festival, Shockerfest (California), and Dead Channels (San Francisco). If you are in any of those cities please keep checking back and try and make it out to a screening. We'll update details as we obtain them.
The big news: we have our first attached cast member. The highly-talented James Lorinz (Frankenhooker, Street Trash, The Jerky Boys) is the first actor to join Adam Wilson for this foray into madness and bloodletting. We couldn't be happier that he agreed to do the film, and respect his previous work immensely.
Coverage on the film and the rest of the Unstable Ground slate has been appearing on major horror news sites all over the internet. Fangoria, Bloody Disgusting, Dread Central, Twitch and Shock-Till-U-Drop have all run the story, a taste of what is to come. The first cast announcements will be made in the coming weeks, so keep checking back.
The Rue Morgue Festival of Fear went great, with tons of positive feedback brought to us by fans. Ending The Eternal screened twice to unanimously enthusiastic audiences. We also met a lot of great people and are thankful for everyone that came out to meet us. Here are some photos of our booth:
